AGM of the Arts and Literary Society

Around 300 members attended the annual general meeting of the Arts and Literary Society and listened with great interest to the report of the year’s activities from the President, Mrs Janet Rodwell.   We heard that there had been 119 new members last season and there was a waiting list of 178, which is a very healthy position for the Society.   Mrs Rodwell paid tribute to the Committee and various other members who worked hard for the Society especially on Monday evenings.   During the year Mr Ken Green, a past President of the Society, had written a book about the past 100 Active Years of the Society which has been published and is available to purchase.   She presented Mr Green with a bottle of Champagne to commemorate this magnificent achievement.

Mrs Rodwell was re-elected as President unanimously and so were the other officers and committee.   We were given an insight into the programme for the next season which will include John McCarthy talking about his 1943 days in captivity, Gerald Dickens with his one man show Nicholas Nickleby and Julian Lloyd Webber.   The evening ended with our usual sumptuous buffet.
