Clacton and North East Essex Arts and Literary Society

AGM Report by Hon. Vice President Mrs Patrice Waller March 18th

Our Society, over the years, has gained great respect amongst theatrical agencies throughout the United Kingdom which has allowed us to draw from the best talent available to provide well balanced entertainment each season. Our somewhat unique quality and the size of our audience do ensure that Clacton is a popular venue for artistes. Subsequently, of-course, it is the powerful programme which enables us to retain such a strong membership.

During this last year we circulated our programme in advance to all past and prospective members, and were given good coverage pre-season in the local press, with articles also appearing before each performance telling the local population what we were offering. Reports were published after each event and we are indebted to Audrey Owens for her efforts in preparing and submitting those reports to the Gazette offices, and in her absence to Jan Rodwell.  It is important that we publicise ourselves as well as possible so, besides the press coverage, our programme leaflets are widely distributed and are also available in all local libraries.

As I have already said, the Society has a great reputation in the Tendring area and beyond and we have always been fortunate enough to have a waiting list of prospective members which has enabled us to have a maximum membership every year.  This maximum only restricted due to the size of the theatre.

I am sure we will all accept that it is our healthy membership which has lead to our success and whilst we, as a committee, will continue to do all we can to seek coverage, I know you will agree that ‘WORD OF MOUTH is the best recommendation so I would ask each of you to help by doing all that YOU can, as individuals,  to promote Clacton and North East Essex Arts and Literary Society whenever you have the opportunity amongst friends and family, thus helping to ensure our future. Our Society, over the years, has gained great respect amongst theatrical agencies throughout the United Kingdom which has allowed us to draw from the best talent available to provide well balanced entertainment each season.
